Acacia Wood Care Guide: Oiling, Cleaning & Lifespan
Acacia is one of the hardest, most water-resistant tropical hardwoods used in kitchenware. It is naturally beautiful and naturally durable, but a small monthly habit will keep your board looking new for ten years or more.
After every use: hand-wash, dry upright
Wash the wood side with warm soapy water and a soft sponge. Rinse, then prop the board upright to dry β never leave it flat in a puddle of water.
Never the dishwasher
The dishwasher's combination of prolonged heat and constant water will warp acacia and crack the food-safe finish. Hand-wash only.
Once a month: a thin coat of food-safe oil
Apply a thin coat of food-safe mineral oil or specialised cutting-board oil with a clean cloth. Leave it on for an hour, wipe off the excess. This re-seals the wood and prevents drying out.
Stains, odours and small scratches
For onion or garlic odours, rub the wood with half a lemon and coarse salt, then rinse. Small surface scratches can be sanded out with very fine 220-grit sandpaper followed by a fresh coat of oil.
